Recently, I smiled at the outburst of one of my Facebook friends who was so bitter about some annoying posts that were posted by some Facebook “friends” on her timeline. I did suggest to her what to do, but decided to do a post on this problem after reading some other friends complain about the same anomaly.
What was obvious in all cases was the fact that they did not know that Facebook has given its users power over their timelines. No doubt, a lot of Facebook users are not aware of this.
So, what powers have you got?
1. Power to delete. Simply delete posts you do not want from your timeline. That simple. To delete, click on the drop down arrow by the top right of the post and click on delete. That’s it.
2. Set who can add things to your timeline. Simply follow this steps :
Step 1 – Go to Settings => Timeline and Tagging. If you are using a Facebook app click on ≡ on the top right of your screen. Scroll down and you will see Account Settings. If you are using a PC, click on the drop down arrow on the top right of your screen. You will find Settings as one of the options.
Step 2 – Click on Timeline and Tagging. There are three controls there. The 1st and the 3rd deals with the problem I am addressing.
CONTROL 1– Who can add things to my timeline? Here you decide
[i] who can post on your timeline. You chose between Only Me and Friends and
[ii] Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline – Here, you decide whether tags appear immediately on your timeline or you have to approve them first before they appear on your timeline. Here, you can switch between Enabled and Disabled.
Note: This settings only controls what appears on your timeline. Posts you’re tagged in will still appear in search, news feed and other places on Facebook.
CONTROL 2 – Deals with how can you manage tags people add and tagging suggestions? Turn on Tag Review to review tags friends add to your content before they appear on Facebook. When someone who you’re not friends with adds a tag to one of your posts you’ll always be asked to review it. Here too, you can switch between Enabled and Disabled.
