I have heard (and read) people say God does not answer prayers. This position could be as a result of praying for a long time without results or because of an unpleasant event that happened to them or someone else. This dwindles or completely erodes their faith in God and the conclusion is that “God Does Not Answer Prayers!” The aftermath is to seek alternative man-made gods, often times, leading to tales of sorrow and regret.
With my little knowledge and experience, I have put together what I think could be the problem. So, slowly, please read and reflect on these likely causes. I am sure some doubts and beliefs would be cleared. If you know anyone who shares in the belief that God does not answer prayers, please do me the favour of referring the person to this post. Please read on…..
Sin creates barriers between prayers and God…
“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:1-2)
Sometimes, in our own interest, God does not approve of our requests….
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Prov 14:12)
You have not been showing gratitude to God by telling people of His awesome goodness to you….
“Share your testimonies! As long as you keep it to yourself, you deny many people of their blessings and you will be held responsible someday. One reason God did what He did in your life is so that your testimony can trigger that of others. How are you utilizing this powerful tool?” (Pastor E.A. Adeboye, General Overseer, RCCG)
Not caring to thank God after He has granted your request(s)….
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” (Luke 17:17-19)
Fear reduces the quality of your prayers….
“And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.” (Exodus 14:13)
Sometimes people depend on worldly things even after prayers…..
“And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear…” (1 Sam 17:47)
And also, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matt 4:24)
“Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is any thing too hard for the Lord?” (Gen 18:12-13)
So my friend, God still answers prayers. Yes He does. I am a living witness. So many other people can attest to this fact. I belief you are one of them too. God is not wicked. He means well for us. So, if God is not answering your prayers or the prayers of someone you know, it could just be one of the reasons above and not that He has lost His potency or that any other power is greater than Him, for He says : “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jere 29:11).
So, we have to continue pray “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thess 5:17)
God bless us all.
Thanks for your time.
